We stock and install Linear-compatible welded gate parts across Riverside, with most fabrication repairs running between $240 and $680 installed depending on what failed and how much of the hinge or frame structure needs to be rebuilt. Same-day service is available for most jobs, and every repair starts with a written price before we touch anything.
The way owners usually find us is by ear first. A Linear swing gate that used to close with a soft thunk now drags against the driveway or scrapes the post. The operator still runs, but the gate itself has sagged or cracked at a weld. That’s a fabrication problem, not an electronic one, and it usually means weight is now sitting on a joint that was never meant to carry it alone.
Which Linear Models This Applies To
Linear gate operators sit on a wide range of gate styles, so the fabrication side depends less on the operator model and more on what the operator is pushing. We see this most often on Linear SL and Linear SW series swing operators mounted to tubular steel or wrought-iron gates, and on Linear slide operators bolted to cantilever gates that ride on steel track. The common thread: the operator mounts to a steel post or a gate frame that was welded years ago, and Riverside’s summer heat and occasional heavy winds have been working on that metal ever since.
On the OEM versus aftermarket question: for the operator internals, we strongly prefer genuine Linear gears, boards, and limit assemblies. But for welded steel components, the honest answer is that Linear doesn’t manufacture gate frames or hinge brackets. What matters is the material spec. We match the existing steel’s wall thickness and use the same welding process the original fabricator used. For most Riverside homes with standard steel tube gates, that means MIG welding with 0.030 or 0.035 wire on cold-rolled steel. If the gate is ornamental iron, we switch to a lower-heat process so we don’t blow through the detail scroll work. The part you can’t see on a parts diagram is the one we’re usually rebuilding.

Signs Your Linear Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate scrapes the driveway on the latch end. The top hinge has sagged or a weld at the hinge barrel has stretched. The operator keeps trying to close it, which adds more stress to the same joint.
- You see a hairline crack at the base of a vertical picket or where the gate frame meets the hinge plate. Water gets in, Riverside’s dry heat expands the steel, and the crack widens over a few months. It won’t close itself.
- The operator buzzes or clicks but the gate only moves partway. The motor is working. The gate’s own frame is now too heavy or too misaligned for the operator’s torque rating to move it.
- The post the operator mounts to is loose at the base, moving when the gate does. The post wasn’t set deep enough or the weld at the base plate has given way. This one shortens the life of every operator part downstream.
- You hear a metal-on-metal groan near the hinges when the gate is halfway open. That’s not an operator sound. That’s the gate asking the hinge to do a job the weld used to do.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Riverside, a cracked weld on a standard steel tube gate runs about $240 to $360 to grind out and re-weld, including a reinforced gusset so the same joint doesn’t fail again next season. A sagging gate that needs both hinge barrels cut off and re-welded runs $380 to $520. Full re-fabrication of a badly damaged gate section, including new steel to match the existing profile and a fresh coat of rust-inhibiting primer, lands between $550 and $680.
What drives the range is access. Gates set in stucco pillars near the Mission Inn district often leave us almost no room to get a torch or grinder behind the hinge plate. A Riverside gate on an open steel post out toward the orange groves is simpler. You’ll see the exact number in writing before we start, and that number includes the grinding, the welding, the cleanup, and a photo of the finished work before we leave. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers it: if the weld or the alignment isn’t right, we make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
Here’s the honest split. You can check two things safely. Look at the weld joints for cracks you can see in daylight. Press a gloved hand against the gate near the latch and watch how much the frame flexes. But turning a welder onto a sagging gate is where a lot of Riverside homeowners get hurt or make the problem worse. Automotive-grade MIG machines from the hardware store don’t penetrate thick gate steel well, and the hinge carries tension the whole time you’re working on it. A bad weld there can let the gate drop while you’re under it.

FAQs
On an original installation with properly prepped joints and a good primer, a steel gate frame in Riverside lasts 12 to 18 years before the heat and thermal cycling start opening micro-cracks at hinge and latch points. Gates that flex from day one, or that were welded over mill scale, start showing cracks inside six years. Call (341) 895-4331 and we’ll tell you honestly which side your gate is on.
Most cracks can be ground back to clean metal and re-welded stronger than the original joint. Replacement only makes sense when the surrounding steel is rust-thinned across a wide area, which is rare in Riverside’s dry climate. We’ll show you the difference before any decision is made.
A crack at a single hinge or picket takes about an hour of shop time plus cool-down, so a morning appointment usually has the job done before noon. Re-hanging a full gate or replacing a post means the gate stays off its carrier for a day while the weld cools properly.
We stock steel tube, hinge barrels, gusset plate, and all the welding consumables on the truck, and we carry Linear operator parts alongside LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls components. If your operator needs a limit switch while we’re fixing the gate, we usually have it on board.
