If the welded joint or fabricated bracket on your FAAC swing gate has cracked, torn, or pulled loose, you’re dealing with a structural failure that affects how the operator mounts and drives the gate leaf. We weld and fabricate FAAC-compatible hinge plates, operator mounting bases, gate stops, and reinforcement gussets in Riverside, with most jobs landing between $380 and $900 installed depending on how much metal has to be cut out and rebuilt. We can usually get a technician out the same day or next morning, and you’ll see the exact number in writing before any work starts.
Most owners discover the failure the same way: the gate starts dragging, the opener sounds like it’s laboring, or a weld visibly cracks near a hinge. In Riverside’s summer heat, steel expands and contracts through wide daily swings, and fatigue cracks develop right at the weld bead where the stress concentrates. Once that first crack appears, rust gets into the seam and the problem accelerates.
Which FAAC Models This Applies To
We see this on nearly every FAAC swing gate series installed in Riverside: the 400, 412, 415, 422, 770, S800, and C720 lines, plus older hydraulic units still running on properties near the Mission Inn district. The welded components that fail are usually not the operator itself but the mounting hardware: the rear bracket plate that anchors the piston or ram to the post, the front fork that connects to the gate leaf, and the lower hinge plate that carries the weight of a steel or wrought-iron gate.
To identify which part matches your gate, look for the stamped metal tag on the operator body itself. It will show the model series and a production code. For fabricated brackets, you’re matching by measurement: post diameter, gate frame thickness, hinge-center spacing, and the stroke geometry that the FAAC piston needs to travel. A customer once brought us a hinge plate from a 415 that measured 68 millimeters between bolt holes. The aftermarket copy he’d bought online was drilled for 70. It mounted, barely, but the piston geometry was off by enough to bind at full open. That’s the difference between a bracket that fits and one that loads the welds wrong from day one.
On the OEM question: FAAC original brackets are good steel but they’re priced like imported European parts, and in some cases the same fabrication done locally in thicker American steel outlasts the original. We stock both, and we’ll tell you honestly which one makes sense for your gate’s weight and how many cycles it runs daily.
One thing worth knowing upfront: we are an independent gate repair and installation company. We are not affiliated with FAAC, and that independence means we match the part to the actual stress your gate sees instead of defaulting to whatever the manufacturer diagram shows. With newer operators we may recommend OEM while the unit is under warranty and switch to heavy-gauge fabricated parts once the warranty period ends.

Signs Your FAAC Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- Crack visible at a weld bead near the hinge or operator bracket. In Riverside, the daily heat cycle opens paint and lets moisture into the seam, and the rust line you see is usually deeper than it looks. That crack is the structure telling you the joint has already started to work.
- The gate leaf sags and scrapes the ground at the latch end. A sagging leaf usually means the bottom hinge plate or its weld has deformed. The added friction makes the FAAC operator draw more current, which shortens its life and wears the internal limit switches faster.
- Operator clicks, grinds, or stalls mid-swing. When a bracket bends or tears slightly, the piston’s stroke geometry changes. The pump still pushes, but the force gets directed into the wrong angle and the gate hesitates or stops.
- Loose, rattling hardware at the post or gate frame with fresh metal dust. That dust is powdered steel from the fabricated part fretting against its mount. The bolts have started eating into the bracket or the post, and tightening them without repairing the underlying fit just delays the tear-out.
- Fresh paint cracking in a straight line across a plate or gusset. Paint doesn’t crack on its own. A linear crack in paint over steel means the metal underneath is flexing along that line, and flexing steel eventually separates.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For FAAC welding and fabrication work in Riverside, a simple bracket rebuild runs $380 to $550, which covers cutting out the failed plate, fabricating a replacement in heavier material if it helps, welding it in place, and a cold-galvanizing primer plus paint. A more involved job with multiple welds, straightening a sagging leaf, or rebuilding a post-top operator mount lands between $550 and $900. Jobs that require removing the gate leaf and hauling it to the shop for jig work go higher, and we’ll tell you before we touch anything.
Every price is written out before work begins. You’re agreeing to a number, not an estimate, and the number doesn’t move unless we find something while cutting in that genuinely changes the scope. The weld work is covered under our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the repair isn’t right, we make it right, no argument and no fine print.
Here’s how a typical Riverside FAAC fabrication job breaks out:
- Bracket replacement (single hinge or operator mount): $380–$550 installed
- Multiple brackets or post reinforcement: $550–$900 installed
- Gate leaf removal, shop jigging, and reinstallation: $700–$1,400 depending on gate weight
- Welding inspection and touch-up only: $150–$250
DIY or Call Us?
There’s a safe middle ground, and then there’s the part you should leave alone. You can certainly check the visible welds under good light, look for rust lines at the hinge plates, and watch the gate swing once with the operator released to see whether it binds or sags. That’s useful information when you call us. What you should not do is put a grinder and welder on a load-bearing gate joint if you don’t weld for a living. A gate leaf weighs 300 to 1,000 pounds, and a weld that looks fine from the top can be hollow underneath. When it lets go, it lets go with the gate moving. We’ve seen home-repaired brackets that failed in under a month, and one that dropped a gate leaf across a driveway in Jurupa Valley.
We also won’t weld on a post that’s rotted below grade. “A gate should open quietly and close completely — anything in between is just a repair waiting to be named.” That means checking the post itself before we spend your money on the bracket above it.
If any part of that sounds familiar, call (341) 895-4331 and we’ll come look. The inspection is free, and the price is written before we start.
FAQs
A properly fabricated and painted bracket in Riverside typically lasts 10 to 15 years, the same or longer than the OEM part, provided the gate stays balanced and you don’t have standing water at the base of the post. The original welds on many gates installed 15 to 20 years ago are the ones we see failing now. Call (341) 895-4331 and we can tell you whether your crack is a repair or a replacement.
If the crack is short, the surrounding steel is sound, and the bracket hasn’t deformed, yes: we grind the crack out, weld it full-penetration, and reinforce it with a gusset. If the plate has bent or stretched, welding it back often just relocates the stress and the part fails again within the year, so we replace it. Call us and we’ll tell you which one applies to your gate.
Most FAAC bracket jobs are done in two to four hours on-site, including grinding, welding, primer, and paint. If the gate leaf has to come off for jig work, expect one to two days. The price covers the time, and you get a written quote before we start.
We carry common steel stock, hinge plate blanks, and operator mounting brackets sized for FAAC 400, 412, 415, 422, 770, S800, and C720 series plus the fabrication tools to modify them on-site. We also stock compatible parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls operators. If your bracket isn’t one we carry, it’s typically one to two days to bring in the right blank or OEM part. Call (341) 895-4331 for availability on your model.
