We stock and install BFT-compatible welding and fabrication work across Riverside, and most jobs land between $280 and $900 depending on the extent of the weld, the material thickness, and whether we’re repairing in place or fabricating a new component. We can usually get to a Riverside property same-day or next-day when a gate is stuck open or dragging. The way owners find us is typically this: the gate starts sagging, they hear a crack near a hinge or the rack, or a weld seam finally separates after years of Riverside heat cycles and dry air working on the metal.
Which BFT Models This Applies To
BFT gate operators sit across a range of residential and light commercial swing and slide gates, and the welding and fabrication work we do spans the whole lineup: the Deimos, Phobos, and Rigel swing lines, plus the sliding-gate kits that pair with BFT rack systems. The part that needs welding or fabrication work is almost never the operator itself. It’s the steel around it: hinge plates, gate frames, rack mounts, post brackets, or the operator mounting plate. When we arrive in Riverside, the first thing we do is look for the BFT model tag on the operator and then measure the gate leaf and the post. Those two numbers matter more than the model name for fabrication work. A Phobos on a 300-pound gate needs the same rack weld quality as a Rigel on a 600-pound gate, but the material thickness changes, and so does the weld approach.
One compatibility gotcha worth knowing: BFT’s slide operators use a specific extruded rack profile that doesn’t swap cleanly with DoorKing or Viking rack. It’s close in pitch, and we’ve seen handymen force a mismatch and burn through operators. If you’re in Riverside and your gate came with a BFT operator, keep it BFT-matched. We stock OEM BFT rack and mounting hardware on our trucks, plus a quality aftermarket equivalent forged at the same pitch for owners who want a lower parts number. We’ll show you both prices before we cut anything.

Signs Your BFT Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate sags at the latch end and scrapes the driveway. This usually means a hinge weld or the threaded hinge pin has worn through. In Riverside, the dry air doesn’t rot steel the way humidity does, but the constant daytime heat and nighttime cooling cycles flex the metal just enough that old welds start to crack at the edges.
- You hear a metallic groan or squeak right as the operator starts pulling. That’s often the mounting plate shifting against a cracked weld. The operator is pulling against its own mounting point instead of the gate, and that strains the gearbox.
- The gate jolts or stutters when it closes the last few inches. On sliding gates, this points to a rack section that’s pulled loose from its weld or bolts. The operator tries to climb a gap in the rack and loses teeth.
- You can see visible rust bleeding out from under a weld bead. Surface rust on Riverside gates is common, but rust that weeps from inside a joint means the weld was never sealed or ground smooth. It’s been holding moisture inside the seam for years.
- The gate moves an inch or two when you push on it by hand. That play lives in the hinge or the post base, and it gets transferred straight into the BFT operator every cycle. The operator fights the slop until something gives.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Riverside, here’s the honest spread on BFT-related welding and fabrication work. A single cracked hinge weld or a loose rack bracket usually runs $280 to $450, including the weld, grinding, and a fresh coat of enamel. Fabricating a new gate frame section or rebuilding a post base runs $500 to $900 depending on steel thickness and how much we’re cutting out. A full gate leaf build, when the frame is too far gone to save, starts around $900 and goes up with size and hardware. Every quote is a written price before any work begins, and it covers the steel, the welding consumables, the grinding and finish work, and our labor to realign the gate to the BFT operator so it opens and closes without fighting itself. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers every weld and fabrication job. If it fails, we come back and make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
Weld repair isn’t a homeowner job. High-current welding burns hot enough to start a fire through the back side of thin tube steel, and a bad weld on a moving gate looks fine for a few weeks before it fails under load, so we recommend a trained professional, not a weekend patch. What you can safely check before we arrive: note where the crack or separation is, take a photo on either side of the joint, and see whether the gate still runs under the operator or if it’s dead. Then call us. We’ll quote the weld work over the phone in most cases, and Cody Beckman or one of our Riverside techs will confirm the price in writing at the gate before striking an arc. Call (341) 895-4331 and a live person answers, day or night.
FAQs
A proper weld on a prepared joint, sealed and finished, typically holds for 12 to 18 years on a Riverside gate, which is about as long as the surrounding steel lasts in our dry inland climate. The weak point is never the weld itself, it’s the uncoated steel next to it.
Yes, in most cases. If the surrounding steel has thickness left and the crack hasn’t spidered through the tube, we grind it out, reweld it, and reinforce the joint. We only recommend cutting and replacing when the metal has thinned to the point where a repair would buy you a season at best.
Most weld repairs on a BFT gate take 90 minutes to three hours on site, including cool-down and paint. A full gate frame rebuild takes a half-day or a full day depending on size. We clean up before we leave and send a photo of the work area.
We stock BFT rack, mounting plates, hinge pins, and weld-in reinforcement brackets on our trucks, along with the welding equipment and enamel. For oddball custom sections we fabricate at the shop and bring the finished piece to your Riverside property, ready to install.
