Mighty Mule Welding & Fabrication: The Riverside Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Mighty Mule-compatible welded gate hardware and fabricated brackets in Riverside, with most welding and fabrication jobs running between $180 and $650 installed depending on the part and how much custom work the gate needs. Most Riverside owners call us same-day when a hinge tears off, a post bracket cracks, or a gate sags hard enough to drag on the driveway. You’ll usually notice it first as a gate that suddenly swings wide, grinds against the post, or won’t close square anymore. We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with Mighty Mule, but we work on their systems nearly every week and keep the common fabricated parts ready to go on the truck.

A Mighty Mule openers can push a gate for years, but the welded steel around it is what actually carries the weight. When that metal fails, the opener is doing twice the work and burning out faster. That’s the part most people don’t see coming.

Which Mighty Mule Models This Applies To

Most welded hardware failures we see in Riverside involve the FM series and MM series swing gate openers: the FM200, FM350, FM500, MM260, MM360, MM371, MM562, and MM572. The same fabrication issues come up on the Mule dual-gate setups too, where a master and slave arm both pull on a shared set of post brackets and hinge welds.

Here’s what matters for compatibility: Mighty Mule uses two different post bracket profiles depending on whether you have a round tube gate or a square frame gate. The round-post brackets are curved to wrap a 2⅜” or 3″ post, while the square brackets sit flat against box tube. Ordering the wrong one is the most common mistake we fix for owners who tried to source the part themselves. If you can read the model number off the opener’s control board label, we can match everything else from that. For OEM versus aftermarket: Mighty Mule’s own brackets and hinge hardware are fine for light residential gates, but on a heavier gate in Riverside, a fabricated steel bracket with a gusseted corner will outlast the OEM stamping by several years. We keep both in inventory and we’ll tell you which one your gate actually needs.

Signs Your Mighty Mule Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

  • Gate sags more than an inch at the free end. The hinge weld or the post bracket is bending under load. The Mighty Mule arm keeps pushing, but the metal is slowly giving out, and the opener will burn out trying to compensate.
  • A grinding or squealing sound when the gate moves. The gate’s weight has shifted onto the opener’s pivot instead of the hinge. That sound is metal on metal where there shouldn’t be any.
  • Visible crack at the base of a post bracket or hinge. Riverside’s summer heat and winter rain cycles cause expansion and contraction. Hairline cracks turn into full breaks within a season once they start.
  • Gate won’t close completely or reverses before it seats. The geometry changed because a bracket moved. The Mighty Mule limit settings can’t fix a weld that’s no longer where it was.
  • Opener arm looks cocked or angled instead of level. The mounting plate it’s bolted to has pulled away from the gate frame. The opener may still run, but it’s working at a mechanical disadvantage that shortens its life.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Riverside, expect the common jobs to line up like this:

  • Single post bracket replacement: $180 – $260 installed, including cutting off the old bracket, welding the new one, and repainting the weld area.
  • Hinge repair or full hinge replacement: $220 – $340, depending on whether we can weld the original back to true or need to fabricate a new pair.
  • Custom fabrication for a cracked gate frame or bent post reinforcement: $380 – $650, which covers on-site welding, gusset plates, and rust treatment.
  • Full gate realignment and weld inspection: $120 – $180 when done alongside any repair. We check every weld, every bracket, and the opener’s mounting.

Every quote is written before we touch a tool, and it includes the labor, the part, and the cleanup. No surprises on the invoice. The work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise, which means if our weld or bracket doesn’t hold, we come back and make it right. The price you sign off on is the price you pay, and that’s the way Cody Beckman has run every job since he started in this trade.

DIY or Call Us?

There are things you can safely check yourself. You can look for visible cracks at the hinge welds and bracket bases. You can watch the gate as it opens and closes and see if the arm sits level. You can measure the sag at the free end. If you spot a crack or the gate’s sagging more than an inch, that’s where DIY should end.

Welding on a gate that’s under its own weight is not a weekend fix. The gate can shift while you’re working, the grinder can bind, and an improper weld on a Mighty Mule-driven gate will fail again, often in a way that lets the gate fall. We’ve also seen owners weld the bracket on square and discover the arm binds because the pivot height wasn’t accounted for. This is one of those repairs where the second visit costs twice what the first would have. Call us at (341) 895-4331 and we’ll come look. The estimate is free and you’ll have a written number before anything gets cut or welded.
