A BFT hinge and roller replacement in Riverside typically runs $180 to $420 installed, depending on how many hinges or rollers need to be swapped and which BFT model you own. We carry BFT-compatible hinges and rollers on our trucks, so most replacements here in Riverside can be handled in a single visit. You’ll usually notice the failure before you name it: the gate drags on one corner, the wheel doesn’t turn anymore, or the whole leaf sits lower than it did last year.
Hinges and rollers are the quiet parts of a BFT gate. Nobody thinks about them until the gate stops swinging true. But this is the part of the job where I see the most avoidable damage in Riverside. A worn roller grinds against the track every single opening and closing, and eventually that wear travels back into the operator or into the gate frame itself. Catching it early is cheaper than replacing a twisted hinge and a burned-out motor.
We’re an independent Riverside gate repair company, by the way. We work on BFT equipment every week, but we’re not affiliated with BFT or any other manufacturer. That independence means we can tell you honestly when an aftermarket hinge or roller makes more sense than the OEM version for your situation.
Which BFT Models This Applies To
BFT makes slide gates under a handful of series names, and the hinge and roller requirements differ between them. The Deimos series (the BT A300 and BT A400 operators) uses a heavier roller carriage than the older Rigel or Phobos lines, and the roller spacing on the gate panel matters more than most people realize. Missouri and Libra models, which you still see on older Riverside properties, use a completely different hinge bracket style with a pin diameter that’s often 20mm rather than the 25mm you’ll find on newer Deimos gates.
The compatibility gotcha we see most often near the Mission Inn district is this: a homeowner buys a “universal” slide gate roller online, brings it out, and discovers the mounting holes are 12mm off from their BFT bracket. Universal rollers are rarely universal on BFT gates. The original BFT part is matched to the spacing of the bracket, and so is a quality aftermarket equivalent like the ones we stock from brands like FAAC-compatible or DoorKing-adjacent suppliers. Before you order anything online, measure the distance between your roller mount holes and the diameter of the pin. Those two numbers solve most of the confusion.
For hinges specifically, BFT swing gates use either butt-style wrought hinges or adjustable steel hinges depending on whether the gate is iron, aluminum, or tubular steel. Aluminum gates need a hinge with a nylon or brass bushing to prevent galvanic corrosion, and that’s a detail the big-box universal part won’t tell you. Riverside’s summer heat and winter rain cycles make that corrosion worse than you’d see in drier climates, so the bushing decision matters here more than it would in Arizona.

Signs Your BFT Hinge & Roller Replacement Is Failing
- The gate is visibly sagging or dragging. If one corner of the gate scrapes the track or the ground as it opens, the hinge pin or roller has worn enough to drop the gate out of alignment. The scraping sound is metal on metal, and it’s sending wear back through your operator every time it moves.
- The roller doesn’t spin anymore. A slide gate roller that’s seized means the gate is literally being dragged along the track instead of rolled. That flat spot you’ll see on the wheel is permanent, and the extra friction makes your BFT motor work twice as hard.
- You hear a grinding or metallic popping during operation. Grinding is the roller telling you the bearings are gone. Popping is often a hinge pin shifting inside a worn bracket. Both are repairable, but neither fixes itself.
- The gate hesitates or slows at one spot. When a BFT slide gate pauses at the same point in its travel every time, there’s a worn roller or a bent track section at that location. The operator senses the resistance and momentarily labors.
- Visible rust or cracking around the hinge or roller bracket. Riverside’s dry heat doesn’t save gates from rust entirely, especially near sprinkler lines or morning fog. A rusted hinge pin is a failure waiting to happen rather than a cosmetic issue, and a cracked bracket is an immediate repair.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Most single hinge replacements on a BFT swing gate in Riverside run $120 to $220 installed. Roller replacements are typically $90 to $180 per roller, and a full hinge-and-roller refresh on a double gate usually lands between $320 and $420. You’ll always see the exact number in writing before we touch anything, and that number won’t change unless we find something structural we both agree needs addressing.
Here’s how the pricing breaks down in Riverside:
- OEM BFT hinge (single): $40 to $80 for the part, depending on series
- Quality aftermarket hinge: $25 to $50, with the same pin and bushing specs as OEM
- BFT-compatible slide gate roller: $30 to $70, depending on wheel diameter and bracket style
- Labor per hinge or roller: $80 to $140, which includes adjustment and re-alignment of the gate leaf
Every replacement includes alignment of the gate after the part is installed, lubrication of all moving points, and a load test on the operator to make sure it isn’t fighting the new hardware. That’s covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the hinge or roller isn’t right, we make it right, no fine print. We clean up before we leave, too. Shoe covers and drop cloths on every visit, and a photo of the clean-up before we pull out of your driveway.
DIY or Call Us?
Here’s a straight answer. You can safely identify that a hinge or roller is worn, and you can safely measure it. Roller diameter, pin diameter, and the distance between mounting holes, all of that’s checkable with a tape measure and a flashlight. If your BFT gate is just slightly sticky and you want to see if cleaning and lubrication helps, that’s also a reasonable weekend job with the power to the operator disconnected.
But replacing the hinge or roller is the line where DIY gets dangerous. A BFT slide gate is heavier than it looks, especially the Deimos series panels, and releasing a hinge bolt or a roller axle while the gate is under load can drop several hundred pounds on an angle grinder or a hand. Springs, even the small tension ones on some roller carriages, store real energy. Pinch points exist at every joint. The job itself is fast for us because we bring the right jacks, blocks, and alignment tools from the truck. If you’re in the middle of it and feel the gate shift, stop and call us at (341) 895-4331. We’ll schedule the visit, give you the written price, and have it done right.
FAQs
Plan on 5 to 8 years for rollers on a BFT slide gate, and 8 to 12 for hinges, depending on how often the gate cycles and whether it’s been lubricated. Gates near sprinkler overspray or in heavy morning-fog pockets of Riverside tend to wear rollers faster from bearing rust. Call us at (341) 895-4331 if you’re not sure whether yours is at the end of its life, and we’ll check it during a visit.
Rollers with sealed bearings can’t be rebuilt cost-effectively; replacement is the repair. Hinges with replaceable bushings can sometimes be serviced with a new bushing and pin, but if the bracket itself is wallowed or cracked, that hinge is done. We’ll tell you which one applies to your gate before we touch it.
One hinge or roller is usually a 45-to-60 minute job. A full set on a double gate usually takes two to three hours including alignment and operator checks. You’ll have the price and the time estimate before any work starts, and we clean up before we leave.
We do. We carry the common BFT Deimos and Missouri/Rigel hinge sizes and slide gate rollers on our trucks, plus compatible aftermarket equivalents for older series. If your gate needs a rarely-stocked BFT part, we’ll source it and come back, but most Riverside BFT replacements are one-visit jobs. Call (341) 895-4331 for a free estimate and we’ll confirm the part before we arrive.
